For a Kafa Magazine piece titled Umut, I made an editorial illustration in the form of a Turkish identity card, a blue nüfus cüzdanı, with a cat where the photo should be. The fields tell the story. The first name is Umut, which means hope, and the surname is Kayıp, which means lost. The parents are Tekir and Pamuk, two familiar Turkish cat names, and the place of birth is İstanbul. The card is hand-drawn in washed blues with a looping border and a red crescent-and-star emblem. Here it appears on a magazine spread beside the text, and on its own.

Kafa magazine spread mockup with the cat ID card illustration on the left page and the article Umut set in text columns on the right.
