Güzel ve Çirkin is a children's book concept for Gabrielle-Suzanne de Villeneuve's Beauty and the Beast, told in short Turkish lines. I illustrated it in flat, simple shapes. The Beast is a black silhouette with two white strokes for a face; Beauty is a pale profile with peach-blonde hair. Most spreads sit on deep blue, with lilac and dusty pink for the indoor and dream scenes, and small red and purple flowers along the bottom of the pages. The text is set large in playful, informal type and follows the story from the merchant finding the castle to the tear that brings the Beast back.
